Roberta “Bobbie” Eileen Burton of San Jose passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 5, 2023 at the age of 81. She was born in San Mateo, California on February 14, 1942 to Victor and Margaret Jansen. She attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School in San Jose and continued on to Santa Clara High School. At San Jose City College, she met Grant Burton. They married in 1962 and were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to raising a family, Bobbie also worked at Mervyn’s Department Store for many years and made life-long friends. After she retired, she continued to meet with them for luncheons. She didn’t retire for long as she started working for the East Side Union School District in the Adult Education Department. She worked in the office and enjoyed helping the students navigate their education. People were important to Bobbie. She constantly made new friends, but always remembered her old friends. She was a deeply religious person who tried to live as Jesus lived. She was always supportive and never judgmental. She was an extraordinary person.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Margaret Jansen, her brother William Jansen, and her sister Marilyn Smith.
She is survived by her husband Grant Burton, her daughter Julie (Steve deceased) Forestieri, her son Steve (Liane) Burton, her son Greg (Karen) Burton, and her brother Gerald (Dona deceased) Jansen.
Services for friends and family will be held on Friday, January 26 at 11:00 AM at St. Justin’s in Santa Clara. A small reception will follow at the parish ministry center adjacent to the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center would be appreciated. https://give.ucdavis.edu/Donate/YourGift/SAD6864
