Phil and I just got back from our annual week up at Lake Shasta to come home to the sad news of Bill's passing.  Unbelievable!!  I know that he will be missed by his family and friends... and especially you, Darlynda.  My heart and thoughts go out to all of you ~

I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing. My sincerest condolences go out to Bill's family.  During my years at SSRL it was always a pleasure to work with Bill--he would always follow through to the "nth degree" on everything he did, and continuously worked with a very positive attitude.

My heart is heavy with the terrible news of Bill's passing.  He called me just over a week ago to see how I was doing and sounded great.  He was like a member of our family going back to his high school days when he and his friends spent time at our house.  

My deepest sympathy to Darlynda and the boys.  May all the wonderful memories you  have of him help you through this difficult time.

We were very saddened to hear that Bill passed away.  We had the pleasure and privilege of working with him at SSRL for so many years.  He was the most dedicated staff member and always there for the users and the members of our team, solving problems big and small, providing solid support and a steady path.  We cherish the many memories of working together, and send our sincere thoughts to Darlynda, and the family.

Darlynda,  I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about Bill.  Kay called my mother yesterday and told us what happened.  I remember when you and Bill came to my parents house 2 years ago in August,  When Bill saw my father he was shocked to see him and said he felt like crying.  My mother said you told her she needed to start feeding him more because he was so thin.  I remember thinking Bill was emotional, because it must of brought back memories of him and Jack.  Hearing the stories about the 2 of them when they were young. One time riding donkeys down Main Street on the 4th of July.

Didn't ever meet the legend that is Bill Butler, but he raised some awesome kids.  My deepest sympathies to all the Butler clan.  I know they are all very close.  You're all in my thoughts.

Darlynda I can't even tell you how sad and shocked we were when I heard the news. I am so sad.  My heart hurts for you and your family.  I will always remember all those fun times at the desert.  Laguna Beach last year is the best memory of us sitting and drinking those Lapu's at Royal Hawaiian and just laughing together.  He will be so missed.

It was a great privilege to have known and worked with Bill during our time at SSRL. We remember Bill as being truly the mainstay of our group at SSRL, always so reliable and a great resource for all the users. We are greatly saddened by his passing. I knew Bill during my graduate years at Stanford. He was always there to offer kind advice and a friendly face.  He was as much a part of my education and experience at SSRL as anyone was and will be missed greatly.  My sincerest condolences to Bill's family.

I was shocked and quite crushed to hear of Bill's passing.  My heart goes out to Darlynda and the rest of the family, and to his many friends and colleagues who are also deeply saddened.  Bill was always a true pleasure to work and joke around with and was a rock solid contributor at SSRL who took full ownership of his area.  I'm so happy that I'm blessed with many memories of him, his smile, his laugh and all-around good nature.

I knew Bill for years, and worked with him, at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lab. Bill was a great guy personally. He was strong on the job and always reliable and good-humored. Bill truly was an intelligent and creative mainstay.  I really liked Bill and really regret his passing. Sincere condolences and very best wishes to Bill's family and friends.
