Lewis David Lazarus, age 95, of Woodland Hills, California passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Lewis (aka the Rams’ #1 fan) moved from New York over 83 years ago, arriving in Los Angeles at the age of 12. By the age of 14 the Cleveland Rams had moved to Los Angeles. Lewis, already a sports fan, attended their first exhibition game on Sept. 6, 1946, at the Coliseum against the Washington Redskins as a ball boy. It was love at first sight. For many years he had season tickets and would take his mother, Helen, to games, well into her 90’s. He remained a steadfast fan even as the team left for St. Louis for 21 years, traveling to games and getting to know players, coaches and staff.
As proud as Lewis was of his Rams, he was just as proud of his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was also an avid hiker, golfer, tennis player and all-around sports fan (and had the trophies to show for it). One of his favorite places in the world was Yosemite National Park.
Lewis was a 12-year-old that never grew up and he brought out the kid in all of his friends. He lived life to the fullest and had wild stories of meeting Alfred Hitchcock, his near fight with Charles Bronson, Ronald Regan picking him up when he was hitchhiking as a kid and hanging out with Elvis at the beach.
Lewis was preceded in death by his mother Helen, and his sister Lori. Friends were like family to Lewis and he will be deeply missed by all.
