Anthony “Tony” Marone, 77, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2022, with his wife, Johanna, and daughter, Lori, by his side. Born on October 30, 1944, Tony was originally from Staten Island, NY, the son of Anthony and Theresa (Tess) Marone, and lived in Sarasota with Johanna since 1994.
Husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many – Tony loved Johanna and his family above all else. He enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle, and sharing words of wisdom. Tony could always be counted on in times of crisis. He was a New York City Police Officer and Highway Patrolman from 1965 to 1983, and later served as a Police Lieutenant, Deputy Chief of Police, and Chief of Police at the Sarasota Bradenton Airport from 1990 to 2007. He successfully completed over 40 years of service in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff with the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office Court Services Bureau in 2013.
Tony was a dedicated and ardent supporter of all those who protect and serve. He was a proud and active member of the New York 10-13 Association of America, Inc., the Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Lodge #3, the Blue Knights Florida XVIII, and, most recently, the President of the Manasota 10-13 Club.
Tony’s legacy will be his immense love of life, family, and friends which will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Johanna; his three children: Paul (and wife, Margery), Jon (and wife, Christie), and Lori Schwartz (and Michael); his eight grandchildren: Lyndsay, Madison, Joshua, Emily, Rylie, Lucy, Rose, and Sofie; his sister, Judy DeRenzo (and husband, Michael); and sister-in-law, Mary Dugan (and husband, James). Tony was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss him greatly.
