Charles H. Patterson, Jr, 91, of Sarasota, FL, died on Jan. 8, 2016. Charles grew up in Waynesboro, Virginia and served with the United States Army Air forces during World War II. He subsequently obtained his undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees from the university of Virginia. He was a faculty member at Longwood College (now University) in Farmville, Virginia for thirty five years. Dr. Patterson was the Chairman of the Education Department when he retired in 1986. He was predeceased by Barbara, his wife of fifty years, who died in 1998. Survivors include his daughters Gail (bob) Fischetti of Plainfield, Illinois and Hilary (Stuart) Jones of Bradenton, Florida; his grandchildren Chris, Jon, Katie, and Brian; great grandchildren Jaxon and Sawyer; and his dear friend Anne Hempel. At his request, there will be no services.
