David was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to John and Isabelle Carter. He attended St. Killian’s School and Bishop Stang High School. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and earned a master’s degree in mathematics there. He was hired by AT&T upon its divestiture to serve as Marketing Vice President in the Consumer Products Division. His career continued at AT&T until 1999. When David semi-retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida, he became a Great Clips franchisee. It was while serving on the Great Clips national marketing council that he became a NASCAR fan. He was also a fan of the Patriots, the Red Sox and whoever was playing the Yankees. A voracious reader, David was proud to have read Modern Library’s Top 100 Novels in the English Language, all of Shakespeare’s plays, and biographies of America’s Founding Fathers. David is survived by his brother Stephen and sister-in-law Chris McSwain, his ex-wife Rennie, with whom he maintained a loving relationship, and his beloved son John David (“J.D.”).
