

Doris was born on July 23, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late John Arthur and Anita Billbrough Tuckwood. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1951. Following high school, Doris attended Western Maryland College. During her time there, she was a cheerleader and a member of the field hockey, basketball, and volleyball teams. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education in 1955.
After graduation, Doris married her beloved husband, Howard Richard Linton, and raised four children in Wilmington, Delaware. As a mother, Doris always made sure her children had opportunities to pursue their interests, and supported their dreams. During this time, she attended West Chester State University and earned a Master of Education in 1973. She was a dedicated middle school teacher who was loved by her students.
Doris retired with her husband in 1992 and moved to Nokomis, Florida. During retirement she
volunteered as a tutor in the Sarasota County Schools, started a successful jewelry business, traveled the world, and spent time with her many friends. In the final years of her life, Doris found a loving and supporting community at Bay Village in Sarasota, Florida.
In life, the things that brought her the most joy included spending time with family in Ocean City, New Jersey, worshiping with her church community, playing duplicate bridge, exercising, and reading.
Doris was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind an extended family who loved her dearly.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Howard Richard Linton, and sister Edith Jean Kahlbaugh. She is survived by her four children, daughters Patricia Sutter and husband Kenneth of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Kathryn Pierpoint and her husband Jim of Charlotte, North Carolina; Jennifer Holladay and partner David of Covington, Georgia; and son, Richard Linton and wife, Sally of Manhattan, Kansas.
In addition, she will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren, Katie Gerrits and husband Eric, Nicholas Sutter, James Pierpoint and wife Sara, Matthew Pierpoint, Aubrey James and wife Bailey, Olivia Holladay, Lilian Linton, and Christopher Linton, and three great-grandchildren, Harper Gerrits, Beckam Gerrits, and Aubrey James, IV.
A service to celebrate Doris Linton’s’ life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Colonial Oaks Baptist Church located at 6901 Bee Ridge Rd., Sarasota, Florida.
