At the Age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps to serve his country at the end of the Second World War, his two years with the “Fifth Fielders” while stationed in Guam cemented his lifelong love for his country.
In 1949 Ed married Delores Van Zanden. They were married for 27 years and raised 6 children together.
Mike (Carolyn) Windemuller, Gail (Chuck) Alles, Steve (Deb) Windemuller, Rick (Nancy) Windemuller, Mark (Carol) Windemuller, and Nancy (John) Sedlar. They helped many others as foster parents and by opening their home to an exchange student and immigrant families.
In 1983 Ed married Angela Padron. They were married for almost 39 years and they raised one son together, Fernando (Ana Varela-Windemuller) Windemuller. In 1984 they moved to Sarasota, Florida.
Ed was very involved with the American Shetland Pony Association in Michigan and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association in Florida. He started many businesses which included Feyen Windemuller Electric, Windemuller Electric and later Windemuller Technical Services in Sarasota, Florida.
Over the course of his construction career, he trained hundreds of young electricians, many of them going on to form businesses of their own. He worked tirelessly to improve the contracting industry in both Florida and Michigan by serving as a founding leader or active member of several organizations including the American Subcontractors Association, the Independent Electrical Contractors and the Associated Builders and Contractors. Ed would say that the job was never complete until the customer was 100% satisfied. Quality always came before profit. His motto was always, "BE part of the answer not part of the problem.”
Both in Michigan and Florida he volunteered for various school and church organizations. He played a part in building his church in Sarasota and also the Out of Door Academy on Siesta Key, Florida.
