Howard grew up on a farm in Nebraska. He was one of five siblings. He then served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. After completing his military service, he moved to Sarasota in 1955 where he started his family and lived the rest of his life.
A hardworking man. A man of many skills; however, caring for his family was his life’s passion. Affectionately known as “Gramps”, he was dearly loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was our patriarch. A smile, a laugh, a fixer. Generous, a gentle man and a gentleman.
Words simply fail to capture the true spirit of “Gramps.”
He was very involved in his church, Concordia Lutheran, where he served for more than 50 years volunteering and serving the community.
Howard never met a stranger. You could always expect a good joke and a good story. He had a love of traveling and was an avid fisherman.
The world is a better place for having him in it. Loved beyond words. He will be missed beyond measure. The loss of his presence here on earth is unmeasurable, but so is the love he leaves behind. Until we meet again in heaven.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, of 48 years, 3 children; Jeff (Heather), Phyllis (Bill), & David, 2 grandchildren: Justin (Julie) & Garrett (Sarah); 7 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Cooper, Emily, Adleigh, Caleb, Jacob, and Devynn.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2185 Wood St., Sarasota, FL 34237. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. A committal service will be held at 2:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State RD 72, Sarasota, 34241.
