John Ellsworth Blickenstaff

9 noviembre , 193624 septiembre , 2020

John Ellsworth Blickenstaff, 83, of Wheatfield, NY and Sarasota, FL passed away on September 24, 2020.

Beloved husband of Rose (Partsch) Blickenstaff; dearest father of Jeffrey (Karen) Blickenstaff, and Robert (Lynn) Blickenstaff; dear grandfather of Dawn (James) Schwanz, Amy (Kevin) Crofts and Rob Blickenstaff; step grandfather to Joseph (Jill) Czajka and their children; Jason (Michele) Czajka and Kristin Czajka; great grandfather to Michael, Anthony, Mya, Karter, Avery, Carson, and James Lee.

Son of the late John E. and Fannie (Uhle) Blickenstaff; dear brother of Caroline (Mel) and Virginia; uncle to many nieces and nephews. An avid animal lover, he will be greatly missed by his grand dogs.

Jack was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he met his lifelong love, Rose, at 18. They eloped and moved to Buffalo, NY. He was a member of the National Guard.

Jack worked for Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory and is credited with the creation and operation of the superb test labs to service a broad range of aviation equipment, and is the holder of US patents for engineering work that he performed at the Calspan Corporation. In 1968, Jack started Aero Instruments and Aeronautics. He led Aero Instruments and Avionics to become the largest aviation employer in Niagara County.

Jack had a love for all things ‘transportation’. Over the years, he had several planes, yachts and antique and exotic cars. An avid train modelist, Jack built an entire layout of the Durango railroad in his home in Wheatfield, NY as well as smaller gauge layout in his home where he retired in Sarasota, FL.

He was a man of few words and built an amazing life out of almost nothing. He created a legacy for his children and grandchildren. His love for his family although, typically not spoken, was shown through his generosity and the opportunities he created for them.

I am very sad to hear the news of Jack's death. I met Jack after I got out of the Air Force at age 22. I talked to him on the phone about getting a job at Aero Inst. He finally called me back to come in to speak with him. We went to his office, and when I noticed he was the CEO. My nerves went through the ceiling and I wondered...now what...Well, Jack was just great and made conversation very easy and relaxing. He gave me a job and more importantly...the beginning of a great career. I learned the aviation business the next 12 years there. Here I am today at 56 working in Engineering at Moog in the Aircraft Group. Thank you Jack for taking a chance on me ! Rest in Peace.....My thoughts and prayers to Rose and the rest of the Blickenstaff family.

Rose, Jeff and Bob,

I'm very sorry for your loss. Jack was a great man and was always good to me. Aero was a great family business that he started and I enjoyed working there in the '90s. He will be missed. God bless.

I would just like to say Thank You Jack!
Thanks for giving a 24 year old kid a job at Aero in 1995. 25 years later I still work at Aero and was saddened to hear the news. My deepest sympathies go out to Rose, Jeff and Bob. Jack was a great man who provided me with my livelihood and I will be forever grateful. Though things have definitely changed over the years his legacy still lives on in a lot of us who are still at Aero. Rest in peace you have definitely earned it! God bless.
