

Marianna T. Schmidt, of Sarasota, Florida, went to be with the Lord on November 6, 2016. Born to Doyle Vivian (nee) Padgett and Rueben Spurlin Thomason at home in Morganfield, Kentucky, on January 12, 1931. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, after marrying her beloved husband of 60 years, Philip E. Schmidt. She was both a housewife and full-time mother, while helping her husband found his business Indiana in 1966, with manufacturing plants in both Ohio and Florida. She moved with her family to Marco Island, FL in 1982, traveling extensively with her husband throughout the world through their travel agency, Marco Travel Planners. After enjoying residences in Marco Island & Naples, they relocated to the Glenridge in Sarasota in 2005. Marianna was always active in volunteer activities within the education and medical communities, served actively in her church, and was a 50 year member of P.E.O. chapters in both Ohio & Florida, founding Chapter GT in Naples, FL. She is survived by her four children: Son, Ralph & wife, Lynn of Winston-Salem, NC; Daughter, Mary Jane (“M.J.”) & husband, Franco Secades of Daytona Beach, FL; Son, Gerald (“Jerry”) & wife Charlene, of Nokomis, FL; and Daughter, Sally Heinze & husband Torsten, of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Kerstin Schmidt, Kansas City, MO; Ashley Fillmore Nagle Richmond, VA; and Brendan Heinze, Sarasota, FL; Sister-in-law, Mary Emily Schmidt of Cincinnati, OH; and Brother-in-Law, John (“Jack”) & wife Susan Schmidt of Cincinnati & Sanibel, FL, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home from noon to 2:00p.m., Friday, November 11, with a Celebration of Life being held at the Church of the Palms Presbyterian Church, at 3:00p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband.
