Michael “Smitty” Smith, 59, a lifelong resident of Sarasota, went to soar with the eagles on December 30, 2015. Mike’s love of sports started young with Ringling Redskins football and Little League Baseball. He went on to play football at Cardinal Mooney High School and was proud to be a member of the 1972 state championship team. After graduating, Mike was awarded scholarships to play football at both Lees McCrae Junior College and Maryville College in Tennessee.
Mike was the owner of Mike Smith Concrete and Pavers for 27 years. In both his business and personal life Mike never met a stranger and was always ready to help anyone in need. He developed a passion for golf, played in a weekly basketball league and enjoyed riding his motorcycle but his greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne “Smitty” Smith and Judy Smith. He was the loving husband of Cherie, Dad to Aubrie Alsum (Jeremy) and TJ Smith (Angie Friend) and “Poppy” to Skilar, Olivia, Kase and Ella. Mike is also survived by sisters; J.
