Richard Hunter Malins, 72, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Alliance, Ohio died February 16, 2015. He served in the U.S. Army as a communications specialist during the Viet Nam War. He was in sales for Filnor, Inc. in Alliance and in his spare time he was an avid golfer. Twenty years ago Richard moved to Sarasota to work as an insurance agent at his brother’s business – Al Malins Insurance Agency. Richard had a pleasant easy-going personality and was always willing to go the “extra mile” for his customers and friends. Richard was truly loved and will be missed. Survivors include his brother, Al, sister-in-law Beverly and nieces, Karen Reno, of Sarasota and Debra Marrero of Newnan, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Stanley Malins of Alliance, Ohio. Visitation will be at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, 7454 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, Feb. 19. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10 am at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home followed by a military service at 11 am at the Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, would be appreciated.
