Ron was born in Geddes, SD to Ruth and Joseph Varilek. He graduated from Custer High School and enlisted in the Navy for four years. Ron went on to earn a Civil Engineering Degree from South Dakota School of Mines and later earned his Masters degree. He obtained two patents. He had a long and successful career as a Marketing Director of Sales. Through his career, he was employed by Allis Chalmers, Clark Equipment, and Kenhar.
Ron was a Siesta Key Beach Ambassador and recently received an award for 1500+ hours. He started when the program was initiated in 2003 and ended his volunteer job in October 2023.
Ron was a greeter and usher at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church 4 p.m. Mass on Saturdays.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn of 42 years, son, James Varilek (Mary), daughter, Dawn (George), son, John Varilek (Tammy), daughter-in-law, Regina Varilek, sister, Laura Mae Lubeley, brother Richard Varilek (Marlene), mother-in-law Rosanne Taylor, brother in law, Joseph Anderson, and sister in law, Lola Dickerson. Ron and Carolyn were blessed with thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Ron is preceded in death by his son, Thomas Varilek, sister, Dorothy Barrow, and brother, Robert Varilek.
Ron enjoyed golfing with his buddies. Ron worked part time in his retirement years at Misty Creek Country Club for seventeen years. He lived his love of golf by working security at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia for seventeen years.
A Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel on Siesta Key with internment at Sarasota National Cemetery.
As a tribute to his life, there will be a brick placed with his name at St. Michael the Archangel and a brick placed at Siesta Key Beach in remembrance of his service to country, church, and community. A Life Well Lived!
