Once he became of age, he left to serve in the navy on HMCS Cornwallis for 2 years, after which he settled in Saskatoon, working for his Uncle George Dovell at Dominion Motors. He later got into floorcovering with Bennett Floors, then after formed his own business, Parker Carpets.
He met the love of his life, Eileen (nee James), and married in 1963. Together they raised three children in Saskatoon. Al and family enjoyed a happy life, with many friends and family members coming and going from the house, camping trips all over western Canada in their beloved trailer, and many events that made for wonderful memories.
He found his true calling for flowers and gardening, even placing in second in the city horticulture contest one year. His yard and his plants were something of a natural wonder, and will be cherished memories for all who knew.
After the grandchildren came, they became the new loves of his life. Grandpa spent many days with his grandkids, teaching them gardening and life lessons, and taking them on adventures in and outside of the city, notably on blueberry picking adventures in the suburban.
He is remembered by his wife of 60 years, Eileen; his children Wanda (Jeff) Losie, Patti (Bob) Moss, and Jim Parker. His grandchildren, Eric (Katie) Husband, Jennifer Losie, Ashley Moss, Andrew Losie, Kristen (Evan) Moss-McLean, and Ewan Parker, as well as his great granddaughter Audrey Husband. He also leaves to cherish his sisters, Jean Dew, Evelyn Spicer, Myrtle (Vic) Bieleny, and Mona Dovell; and numerous loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Olive Parker, his Brothers-in-law, Ken Dew, and Lloyd Spicer; a Daughter-in-law Cara Parker (nee Stalwick); and his special Uncle Albert Dovell.
There will be no formal funeral, as to his wishes. There will be a small family memorial in the family cemetery, which after Al's fathers passing, he took over maintaining with his cousins Wayne Parker and Reg Parker. Their many years of work, along with the recent work of the kids, and grandkids, the cemetery became known in the area for its beauty.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
