Billie was born in Prince Albert to William and Lillian Burnett. She was raised on a farm east of Prince Albert and was the youngest of 3 children. Her father figured that they would not have another son and decided to name her Billie. He was “Big Bill” and she was “Little Bill”. When Billie entered high school the family moved into Prince Albert. Billie’s first job was a secretary in the John D. Diefenbaker Law Office in Prince Albert, she always said “He was wonderful man to work for but he never got my vote”.
In July of 1948 Billie went to Waskesiu for a vacation. Friday, July 13 turned out to be a lucky day as Billie met Reg, it was love at first sight. They were engaged before the vacation was over and were married June 4, 1949. They were one month shy of 63 years of marriage when Reg passed.
Billie and Reg settled in Saskatoon and from this union, 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Billie was a stay-at-home mom but that didn’t mean she wasn’t busy. Billie researched the history of Thornton School and wrote an article for the 75th school anniversary. She organized many raffles and fall suppers for Thornton Home and School. Monday afternoons was bowling, summer was coaching softball and of course - Bunco Club.
After Reg retired, world travel began. Trips to England and Scotland, bus trips and cruises to California, Australia, Europe, Panama Canal, Hawaii with the C.N. Pensioners Association. Billie’s favorite trip was to Churchill to see the Polar Bears.
Purchase of the motorhome was freedom to go anywhere, California, Penticton, Vancouver, Victoria and Namekus Lake. Billie felt the most at home at Namekus which started in a tent, moved to a tent trailer and finally the motorhome. Many a “Happy Hour” with friends Fred and Joyce and Marg and Paul and too many fish fries to count.
Billie was predeceased by her loving husband Reg and very special grandson Ryan Taylor. Brother Charles (Miriam) Burnett and sister Elizabeth as a teenager. Taylor family, Rene (Don) Matthews, Sheila (Clarence Fredricksen) (Ted) Neugebauer, Fred (Louise) Taylor, Sister-in-law Jean Taylor.
