Coby Pulles passed away peacefully on November 29, 2014, eight and a half years after the death of her beloved husband, Bert. Coby was the second youngest, and last surviving of the seven children born to Johannes Henrikus van Luijt and Jacoba van Dooren in Eindhoven, Holland. She and Bert married on September 26, 1945 - as soon as possible after the end of WW2. In 1947, Bert and Coby, with their new-born daughter, and Bert’s parents and brother immigrated to Canada and eventually settled in Saskatoon. Coby worked with Bert for years in the family bakery businesses: Brothers Bakery and Broadway Bakery. Despite Coby’s busy work and family schedule, she was always actively involved in Church and Community activities. A 50-year + member of CWL, she was instrumental in starting the Rummage Room at St. Mary’s Hall and organized the Bingo snack bar there, every Thursday night for 25 years. After Coby and Bert retired from the exhausting life of the bakeries, they travelled extensively throughout Canada and the USA. They took particular delight in becoming Honourary Members of the Alumni of the 101st Airborne Division of the American Air Force – the force that liberated the City of Eindhoven on September 18, 1944. Coby was predeceased by her son Bert of Edmonton in 2010 and is survived by her other 6 children, all of Saskatoon, Eleanor Kennedy (Roger), Hank (Jeannette) Pulles, Richard (Chandra) Pulles, John Pulles, Marian Thompson (Barry), and Tom (Maureen) Pulles, and daughter-in-law Elaine (Dan Klemke) of Edmonton. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren: Rachelle (Jason) Wall, Robert (Carol) Kennedy, Randall (Jo-Lynn) Kennedy, Renee Kennedy (Lynn McElroy) and Regan Kennedy (Greg Staples); Richard (Tamara) Pulles, Sherry Pulles (Jamie Olson); Jennifer Bagu (Tim), Keith (Karen) Pulles, Bari Pulles (John Roden); Justin (Erin) Ollerich, Lindsay Ollerich (Garett Armatage); Zach and Sam Fisher; Samantha Lamborn (Michael), Michael Thompson (Jennifer Palchinski); Scott Pulles, Laura Pulles, Michelle Pulles; as well 19 great-grandchildren: Morgan, Parker, Jackson, and Katana Wall; Jillian (Chad Gauthier) and Joel Kennedy; Emily, Anna and Madeline Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Danielle and Kayla Arthurs, Bodhi and Maya Pulles, Abigail and Andrew Bagu; Ryder and Harper Pulles, Mikayla Ollerich; also many nieces and nephews here in Canada and in the Netherlands.
The family would like to express their thanks to Coby's many care-givers, especially Lily, Denita, Denise and Darlene at Samaritan Place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, or a charity of your choice.
