It is with great sadness the family of Colette Caroline (Konecsni) Lammers share the news of her passing on Friday, April 17, 2020. Colette passed away at home surrounded by her close family. She fought a courageous battle with ALS for nearly two years.
Colette is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry; daughter Candice (Greg) Brownell; and son Dustin (Ladine) Lammers. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Sofia & Stella Lammers and Levi & Claire Brownell. Colette grew up in the Dysart area in a loving family with two sisters and five brothers. She is predeceased by her parents Raymond and Mary Konecsni, her in-laws Karl and Helen Lammers, her brother-in-law Ron Lammers, sister-in-law Betty Lammers, and nephew Doug Lammers.
Colette was born in Southey on September 24, 1948 and began her education at Radant near their family farm at Dysart. She transferred to Dysart school in grade 7, where she attended until her graduation in 1965. Upon graduation she moved to Regina and was employed at PFRA, where she met her future husband and love of her life, Jerry.
Colette and Jerry were married on June 8, 1974. Colette’s dream was to have a family of her own and that dream was realized on December 1, 1979 with the birth of Candice, and again two years later when Dustin was born on December 8, 1981. She was a full-time mom for the next 9 years, which was the most fulfilling time of her life. The Lammers family moved to Saskatoon in 1986 and found their long-time home on Neusch Crescent. Colette started working at Home Care in 1988 where she worked for the next 17 years until she retired in 2005
Colette was one of the most genuinely kind and caring people the world has known. She was a friend to everyone she met and always went out of her way for others. Her kindness and loyalty will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Colette loved to travel – taking many trips with Jerry and later with Candice. She and Jerry were fortunate to join Candice’s and Dustin’s families on trips to Disneyland and Disneyworld. Colette was very athletic, and sports-minded throughout her life. Her early years were spent playing on a provincial championship softball team, badminton and a championship curling team. In later years she joined Riverside G&C Club in Saskatoon, where she met many good friends and was the Ladies’ Section President for a year term. She continued to golf until her diagnosis of ALS in 2018. She never missed her kids’ or grandkids’ activities over the last 35 years and was never afraid to be the loudest fan. .Gardening was also a passion of Colette’s, and she kept every yard immaculate. She was even known to “touch up” her neighbors and kids’ yards from time to time.
Colette is survived by sisters Bernadette Rothecker and Marilyn (Marcel) Tardiff; Konecsni brothers Jerome (Colleen), James (Angi), John (Sheila), Mark (Norma) and Ray (Annette). Also surviving Colette is her brother-in-law Bob Lammers. Colette is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
One of Colette’s biggest disappointments after being diagnosed with ALS was that she would not see her grandchildren grow up. Sofia, Stella, Levi and Claire meant the world to her and she was the best grandma the kids could have asked for. She was very active in their lives, and continued to be until her very last days.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her good friend Muriel Harris for her enduring support and love, Dr Schellenberg, Dr Gericke, Loni and the Palliative Care nurses in Saskatoon, Grace from occupational therapy, the ALS support group, Barb from Prairie Hospice, and to Paula from Bayshore Home Health. Paula came into Colette’s life for only a short time, but she treated her with such kindness and compassion and helped make the last few months much more bearable.
Due to the current virus restrictions, the family has decided to delay a celebration of Colette’s life until later in the year. Details will be released at a later date.
