November 5, 1920 –February 12, 2017
Connie had a long, rich and happy life.
She came to Canada (Regina) from Scotland with her husband Tom (Dr. T.H.C Barclay) and their children in 1952. Her Scottish roots ran deep. She never lost her accent, or her love for her “home” country. She smoked a cigarette once and loved a little Scotch neat. She held old-fashioned values and possessed a simple elegance. She saw her role as home-maker, companion, and domestic peacemaker. She was very good at all three. She believed in making and keeping friends. She wrote letters. She lived by the Golden Rule and she knew the importance of being kind and loyal. She volunteered, voted and gave blood. She had a sweet tooth, but she also liked Marmite. She liked to laugh and often got the giggles. She loved poodles and labs, lipstick and parties, gardens and gardening, crafts and pretty things and always, music. Most of all she loved Tom (deceased 2007), her children Brian (Janice) Barclay, Vancouver, Patricia (Judge B. Patrick Carey), Saskatoon, her grandchildren Nolan (Michelle), Marin (Steven), Michael (Monica) Carey, Ghislaine McLeod (Bruce Rempel), and Graeme (Alicia) Carey and eight great-grandchildren. We are indebted to Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre for the care and loving attention offered to Connie and to her friends who visited her there. We express our gratitude to Dr. D Stefiuk. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 21, 2017 at 2:00PM at All Saints Anglican Church (Lorne Ave, Saskatoon, SK) with a reception to follow. We request no flowers, rather a donation to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Centre (306.955.1600).
At Connie’s request: “If I should go before the rest of you
Break not a flower not inscribe a stone
Nor when I am gone speak in hushed Sunday voices
But be the usual selves that I have known
Weep if you must
Parting is hell
But life goes on
So sing as well.”
