Dan’s wife, Annette, and their children Marty Dinelle, Pauline Sawyer, Celeste (Roger) Labrecque, Jocelyn (Kelly) Ginter and Jeanine Dinelle inform you of his passing on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Central Haven. Left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren Brittany/Derek, Rachelle/Justin, Alison/Christian, David/Kate and great grandchildren Reece, Norah, Quinn, and sister-in-law Marguerite Ashley.
Dan, last survivor, was the eighth of 9 children born on September 26, 1931 to Arthur and Laura Dinelle on the family farm at St. Denis, SK. Dan attended Dinelle School and St. Mathieu College, Gravelbourg, SK. At an early age Dan began purchasing farmland and was involved in the business of farming for 42 years at St. Denis, SK.
When Dan’s mom came from Ontario to teach, she brought her piano with her. Dan performed in a quartet with his brothers. He was a regular sitting on the piano stool singing numerous songs but often Frank Sinatra’s “I Did It My Way”. Dan’s way was no credit or debit card--cash was king and a handshake sealed a deal. His children refer to him as a “man of numbers” who never used/needed a calculator. During the winter months he bowled several seasons at the KG and Eastview Bowls. There was opportunity to travel in western Canada, Ontario, Arizona and cruises. In later years (usually 5 mornings / week) he walked 5 rounds at Market Mall. Socializing, telling stories, laughter followed with his coffee buddies who nick named “high pockets”.
Two movies viewed more than once were “The Sound of Music” and “The Ten Commandments”. He faithfully followed the series “Heartland”. Gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries, festive celebrations or just a get-together were significant.
We cherish the quality of life Elder Dan experienced which was provided by the “angels” employed at Central Haven. Our family witnessed the highest degree of compassion and benevolence. Dan left us saying “I Love You”.
We are appreciative of any and all assistance provided by Drs. Larson, Steplewski and Salawu.
Respecting Dan’s request, there is no funeral service.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Central Haven Special Care Home.
