Surviving him are his sons: Greg (Rosalie), Garth, and Brad (Yvonne), along with his grandchildren Stephanie Babo, Ben Babo, Sarah Spicer-Reid (Scott), Jason Spicer (Hilary), and Amanda Spicer, as well as four great-grandchildren, and his Brother Evan Spicer (Maryellen). Professionally, Donald served as the administrator of Estates for the mentally incompetent in Saskatchewan. He earned a degree in Agrology at the University of Saskatchewan and spent some time farming as a young man on their family’s land.
While Donald rarely voiced his emotions, his loved ones and acquaintances found delight in his subtle humor and mischievous disposition. In his personal life, he embraced independence and charted his own course. His unique spirit remained unwavering until the end, as his departure testified to his determination to live life on his own terms.
Throughout his life, Donald found solace and happiness in traveling with his wife and family in their motorhome to Waskesui Lake, and later in life, to Arizona, where he forged new friendships and escaped the snow. Don derived immense joy from witnessing his wife's remarkable ability to bring light and vitality to every room she entered until she passed in 1998. Additionally, he held a profound love for dogs and delighted in their human-like personalities.
He had a deep passion for Big Band music and excelled as both a pianist and trumpet player. Often lost in contemplation, Donald would suddenly break into a wry smile, having conjured up a humorous idea that he might not always share.
An avid golfer, Donald achieved the remarkable feat of winning his club championship at Holiday Park at the age of 90. In his youth, he also attained the title of Saskatchewan champion pole vaulter. He was also a diehard Saskatchewan Roughrider fan.
Despite his unwavering independence, his granddaughter Stephanie played a pivotal role in honoring his desire to stay in his home.
