Doo Gan was from a small village called Wooden Bridge Village near Kaiping, Guangdong Province. He immigrated to Canada around 1950. He later married his wife Kay in 1958, and then opened their first restaurant in Alsask, SK. Over the next several decades while raising their family, they owned, operated or were employed in several restaurants in Saskatoon and Humboldt. During this time, they were responsible for bringing his mother, brothers, and sister to Canada, and also assisted many friends and other relatives immigrate to the country. They retired in 2000 from the last restaurant which they owned for 10 years, The Red Lantern Inn in Saskatoon.
Ken has always been a loving, hardworking husband, father, grandparent and friend. He worked very hard to make sure his children and family had what they needed for a good life. He will be fondly remembered for his love of football and his dedication as a fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was able to attend some games at the new stadium in Regina. He always recalled the aroma of hamburgers grilling at old Taylor Field and enjoyed the mini-doughnuts. When the family was younger, he often travelled to football games on his own, and sometimes lounged on the grass in the end zone.
Ken loved China and was able to travel back a few times to visit family. He travelled with Kay to finally meet his mother-in-law and later enjoyed trips with his good friend Gord.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at Royal University hospital for their care during his time at the hospital.
There will not be a funeral ceremony as per Ken's wishes. A private family gathering will take place instead to honor and celebrate his life.
