

Dorcas was born in Regina, SK on April 6, 1934, to Wilhelmina (Becker) and Reuben McRae. She is survived by her children: William (Regina), Patricia (Rick Schryer) Saskatoon, and Stewart (Ruth Power) London, Ontario; grandchildren Aimée (Denmark), Céline (Saskatoon), Elyse (Korea), Moira, Brenna, and Theresa (London, ON); niece Donna (Bruno Sculli) (Regina); her nephew Gerald Dawson (Linda) (Moose Jaw, SK); and numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford Hayes (2017); parents; and sister and brother-in-law Wilma and Donald Dawson.
Although an only child, her parents came from large families, and she had many cousins, aunts and uncles. Dorcas grew up in Central Regina until 1940 when the family moved to Oshawa, Ontario where her parents worked at the munitions plant. She remembered her dad coming home at noon everyday to play cards something that continued to be a passion all her life. After the war, her family returned to Regina. Where she attended school at Strathcona school, Albert school and Central Collegiate. She worked part-time at Brown’s Auction Rooms all year and summers at Sask Health and Sasktel. She took her first year of Arts and Science at Regina College and then moved to Saskatoon to complete her degree in 1954. While at the University of Saskatchewan, Mom played basketball for the Huskiettes (MacRae). In the spring of 1956, she returned to Regina to work for Imperial Oil.
Dorcas met Cliff at Knox United Church in Saskatoon where they both attended the Young People’s Group in 1953. They were married in October 1956 and lived in Saskatoon where she worked at the Saskatoon Public Library while Cliff completed an MSc degree in Agriculture. In 1961, her family of four moved to Winnipeg where her youngest child was born. She was very active in Windermere United Church and her neighbourhood in Winnipeg. The family moved back to Saskatoon in 1972. From 1974 to 1989 she worked for Statistics Canada.
Dorcas was always actively involved in curling; round, pattern and, square dancing; Rambling Rovers (trailer club); golfing (Riverside Country Club); and bridge. She and Cliff loved to travel and would spend time every winter in Hemet California golfing, dancing and making lifelong friends. After retirement, they traveled to see the world exploring: Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Caribbean and Mexico. She was a member of Bethel United Church from 1972 – 2008, after its closure, she joined McClure United Church. She and Cliff moved to McClure Tower in 2016 and enjoyed the many activities that were available and the good friends she made.
