1932 – 2015
Doug passed away peacefully at Sherbrooke Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Doug was born in Shaunavon, SK. The oldest of three, he grew up there and that is where he met Darlene Knippshild, the love of his life. Together they raised seven children. Doug had many loves. Firstly and most important was his family. The second most important thing was his AA. Doug and Darlene together helped so many people and families during their years in Shaunavon. Doug loved his AA meetings and socializing. He also loved dancing, singing, playing the accordion, hunting and fishing. His love of travel kept him and Darlene busy on many bus tours, meeting people from all over the country. During these trips they made many longtime friends. Doug owned and operated Doug’s Autobody, Shaunavon Greenhouse and Flower Shop and D+D Ceramics. All were family affairs which Darlene and all of their children worked and helped out in. Doug spent his last four years in Sherbrooke Nursing Home where he was given the best of care. We cannot thank them enough for their compassion, caring and the love they gave. Doug was predeceased by his father Nick; mother Bonna; sister Shirley; brother-in-law Gary; and his daughter Linda. Doug is survived by his wife of 62 years, Darlene; his daughter Carol (Ken); son Terry (Linda); son Barry (Sandra); daughter Diane (George); daughter Michelle (Ray); and daughter Wendy (Lance); 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, whom he was very proud of; brother Gordon (Dorothy); sister-in-law Shirley (Abe); brother-in-law Ken Quennell; as well as many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m on Saturday, November 7th at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church (217 Lenore Dr) with Rev. Father Matthew Ramsay as celebrant.
