Doug had spent most of his life with much enjoyment working as a custodian, with the Calgary school board, and retired from there. He then moved back to Saskatchewan, where he enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family and friends. Doug enjoyed riding his Harley, which he rode until he was 82. Doug loved listening to music, especially, old Hank Williams Sr., Elvis and more.
