The Madill family is sad to announce that Douglas Madill, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend passed away on June 15, 2022. Douglas was born Jan. 4, 1941 in Kitchener, Ont. where he was raised. As a youth, he participated in Scouts and Sea Cadets. Doug enjoyed being an identical twin; together the boys had fun tricking people. In 1962 he decided to “go west” and joined the RCMP. He trained in Regina while horses were still part of the training.
Doug was posted to many locations in Saskatchewan. While stationed in Lloydminster, Doug met his future wife, Gerri, whom he married in 1968. Together they raised two boys. The family enjoyed all the communities they lived in and made lasting friendships in each town. Doug valued his family time as well as the many vacations at Turtle Lake.
Doug was known for his willingness to serve in the community. He assisted with Scouts when his sons joined that organization. Participation in his church was an integral part of his life. He served through many capacities in Lions and in recent years, particularly enjoyed his part in the Saskatoon Lions Flea Markets. Upon retirement in 1991, he joined the RCMP Veterans Association. He worked with others on projects such as establishing the RNWMP office at the WDM as well as providing support to other veterans.
Doug enjoyed collecting Mounted Police artefacts, antiques and interesting items. He always had a ready smile and a willingness to engage in conversation. After a life well lived, he now rests in peace.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, two brothers, one step sister, parents-in-law and brother-in-law. Mourning him are his wife of 54 years, Gerri, son Lachlan (wife Karoline and daughter Anya), son Donald Madill, his twin brother, Donald E. Madill (Annette), brother William Madill (Marie) and sister, Barbara Stoliker (Tom), sisters-in-law Dolores Kuziw (Roy), Heather Googins (John), Marian Steinkey (Lloyd), Theresa Cummine, a large extended family and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 at Calvin Goforth Presbyterian Church, 1602 Sommerfeld Ave, Saskatoon, SK, 1:30 pm with lunch to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Nutana Branch 3021 Louise St. Interment in the NWMP Cemetery at Battleford will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Dog Guides Lions Foundation of Canada.
