January 8, 1944 – February 22, 2019
On the evening of February 22, 2019 the heavens shone a little brighter. Our loved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Edie left this world to join them. She left behind her husband of 53 years, Robert; daughter Karen (Doug) Greenwald and their children Tyler (Tracy Schmidt) and Megan; son Gord and his two children Jaxon and Gracie; sisters Nellie Brad, Sheila Schmick, Margaret (Wally) Bazarkiewicz; brother Albert Morrice; sister-in-law Shirley Prince; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Edie was predeceased by her parents Edward and Chrissy Morrice; and three brothers Edward Junior (Shorty) (Jenny), Alex (Evelyn) and Ray; brothers-in-law Peter Brad, Eddie Schmick; and sister-in-law Myrna Morrice. In 1926 Edie’s parents, along with Shorty and Nellie, immigrated to Canada from Aberdeen, Scotland. They started the family farm northwest of Marcelin, SK where Alex, Albert, Ray, Sheila, Margaret and finally Edie were born. After completing high school and a business course in Marcelin she moved to Prince Albert where she lived with her sister Margaret. She quickly found a job at CIBC as a stenographer. It was during this time she met Robert. Robert and Edie were married on June 5, 1965. Karen and Gord soon joined them. Due to Robert’s work with CIBC their small family moved to many locations throughout Saskatchewan. As well as raising her family, Edie volunteered with the Kinettes in Dinsmore and Maidstone, and the Royal Purple in Unity. A business, SE Draperies, was started in Unity which showcased her talent in sewing. Edie and Robert retired to Saskatoon in 1993 where she spent her summers in her garden and her evenings watching her beloved Blue Jays. Making blue jean blankets for various family members kept Edie occupied in the winter. Family, most importantly her four grandchildren, friends and her garden were her passions in life. Edie battled brain cancer for 6 years with dignity and grace. The last two years were spent at St. Anne’s Long Term Care Nursing Home.
Granny, You were an amazing soul that spoiled me every chance you got. You spoiled my friends even more. You taught me how to pick weeds, how to wrap a present, how to make perogies, and most importantly how to be a good human being. Your long battle with cancer is now over, may you rest in peace, gardening in Heaven’s garden. – Love Megan
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne’s Nursing Home (Long Term Care) 2910 Louise Ave, Saskatoon, SK S7J 3L8.
