With profound sadness, the family of Edith "Margaret" Victoria Wojcichowsky (Essar) announce her passing March 30, 2026. She was the youngest child of Dora and Charles Essar, born May 24, 1928. She grew up mainly as an only child, since her siblings were older than her and left home by the time she was 7. Mom graduated from Theodore School and went on to graduate from Yorkton Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked in Public Health for a few years.
On Dec. 29, 1953, Mom and Dad were married. They settled in Theodore and started a family. They moved to Canora for a short time in 1955 before setting roots in Theodore, where Dad taught school and Mom worked at the local hospital. She loved being a nurse and helping others. She retired in 1990 after a long career as a nurse.
Mom got the travel bug for a short time. Her first trip was to Europe, then Kenya, and finally a South Pacific Cruise. She had many great memories she would share with anyone who would listen.
Dad started to have health issues and Mom took on the duty as caregiver until his passing in 2003 of ALS. She then cared for Debbie through her cancer journey until her passing in 2006. Mom also called me every night since the day my son died in 2013.
Mom prided herself in her yard, especially flowers. She could always be found nurturing and weeding. She loved her yard when in full bloom. She also looked forward to joining friends on coffee row, telling endless stories with her dry sense of humor. Mom also loved taking drives in the country to see how the crops were doing or how harvest was going. In winter, she attended games and supported the Theodore Buffs hockey team.
In 2019, Mom moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. She was very sad to leave the town she was born in, grew up, and lived in, but she knew it was time. She lived in Ilarion Retirement Home until a fall last summer, forced her into a nursing home. She lived in Sunnyside Care Home until her passing.
Mom was predeceased by her parents; husband, Nestor; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (Larry) Hoffman; grandson, Scott Martinuk; and son-in-law, Dennis Martinuk. As well as siblings, Steve (Eva), Katie (Fred) Paley, Mike (Gerry), Alex (Joyce), and many other relatives.
She is survived by daughter, Marilyn Martinuk; grandchildren, Jeremy (Salima) of Calgary, Laurel (Matthew) Petersen of Saskatoon, and Zayne (Ashleigh) Hoffman; and great-grandchildren, Zara Martinuk, Oliver and Georgia Petersen, and Cohen and Deacon Hoffman; as well as nieces and nephews.
At Mom's request, there will be no service. Her final resting place is the Columbarium at St. John's Cathedral, Saskatoon. In her memory, donate to the Cancer Society or Theodore Heritage Centre.
There are way too many memories and stories to share. Mom was one of a kind and anyone who knew her will have many memories of her personality, humor, and love of life. Cherish them.
Mom will be forever missed.
