Elfreda passed away at Preston Extendicare at the age of 84. She was born on a farm near Carrot River, SK to Gerhard and Maria (nee Friesen) Matthies, the oldest of 9 children. She attended Blue Jay school and completed grade 10. She took her LPN training in Steinbach, MB, then worked in North Battleford for a short time, then returned to Carrot River. She retired in 1993 from Carrot River Hospital, after working as an LPN for 39 years. Elfreda married Waldemar Gerhard Zacharias on April 30, 1954. They settled on the farm 5 miles west of Carrot River where they resided until 2012, when they moved to Nipawin. They moved to Saskatoon spring of 2016. Elfreda is survived by her husband Waldemar Zacharias of 59 years, by her son Mark (Donna) - children Rhiannon and Danae; daughter Heather Mazur (Darwin) - children Tianna, Rhys and Aleah; as well as siblings Luella, Ruth, Hedy and Harold. She was predeceased by her sisters Louise and Mary; and brothers Willie and Edgar. A Commemorative Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to World Vision Canada.
