August 2, 1939 - February 8, 2017
Betty passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. She was a loving and a dearly loved wife, mother, and sister. Born and raised in Saskatoon, she was one of seven siblings and was an important contributor to their family household. Betty married Stuart in May of 1958, who remained her deeply devoted and loving husband to the end. Together, they raised three children: Lynn Marie, Kathryn Ada, and Robert Charles. Betty worked for a while at Sears, at the catalogue desk, but much of her life was committed to the roles of wife and of mother. Betty was a talented seamstress, often sewing clothes for her siblings and for her family. Many babies were gifted quilts, lovingly made by Betty. Her artistic touch was also displayed in her beautiful chalk pastel drawings. Betty loved her pets and had a number of furry companions over the years. When children grew up and moved out, the close companionship of Murphy, Toby, then Cassidy became an important part of the daily routine. Betty is predeceased by her parents, Ken and Vi Sparrow, and by her twin brother, Bob. She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Stuart; by her children and grandchildren: Lynn (with daughter, Markita), Kathryn, Bob (with daughters Kayla and Chelsea); by siblings Ada (Bud) Stilling, Ed Sparrow, Don (Peggy) Sparrow, Kathi Gelowitz, and Lori (Martin) Heikoop; and by many nieces and nephews. A public viewing will be held the hour prior to the service. The Memorial Service will commence at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15 at the Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street) followed by a chance to visit and share stories in the lower hall. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would appreciate donations made to the MS Society (2-706 Duchess St, Saskatoon, SK S7K 0R3). For those unable to attend the service, web casting will be available at www.windsorchapelsaskatoon.com. Arrangements are in care of John Schachtel - MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (306) 978-5200
