Elmer Jeffrey Kichula passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Paul’s hospital. Left to mourn his loss are: daughter Brenda Cassidy of Burlington ON; sons Robert Kichula of Sylvan Lake AB, Gary (Liz) Kichula of Saskatoon, and Jeffrey Kichula of Saskatoon; 7 grandchildren: Amanda, Shannon, and Brett Cassidy, Kathleen Pilling (Kichula), Joseph and Jesse Kichula; 10 great-grandchildren and several nephews. Elmer was pre-deceased by his wife Patricia in 2006, his parents Tekla and Mike, and his brothers Walter and Joseph.
Elmer was a loving husband and father that despite the health issues he faced, was determined to face the daily challenges and continued to work hard until the battle with COPD forced him to slow down and just take care of the daily tasks. However, he never gave up on tending to his garden and being the pillar of strength to his family.
Dad grew up on a farm in the Petrofka area and attended school at the Merry Home schoolhouse where his brother Joseph was one of his teachers. After finishing school, Dad left the farm to work for CN Rail. It was then that Dad met a strong-willed woman who would become the love of his life. Dad and Mom married in 1960 and remained happily married until Mom’s untimely passing in 2006. After leaving CN, Dad continued to work in Saskatoon until his brother Walter’s accidental passing in 1964. It was at this time that Dad and Mom moved back to the family farm where they created a home and raised four grateful children.
In the 1980’s Dad became actively involved in the Western Canada Concept (WCC) where he travelled throughout Western Canada and the Unites States in the support of farmer’s rights. After some of the chicks left the nest, and with the youngest in tow, Dad decided it was time to down-size, or so he thought, and the family relocated to an acreage in the Pike Lake area. In 2010 Dad sold the family acreage and he and Jeff relocated to Saskatoon where Dad remained until his final days.
Dad requested that a funeral service not be held, but anyone wishing to pay their respects are more than welcome to do so. He is resting alongside his wife Patricia at the St. Johns Columbarium in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan. Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
