October 16,1946 - March 30, 2015
It is with great sadness that the family of Eric Wiens announces his passing which occurred on March 30, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. For those who knew Eric he will always be remembered for his constant tinkering, problem solving and fixing of all things mechanical, a talent that served him well during his career as an Engineer at PCS and while running the family farm. Eric obtained great satisfaction from creating, whether it was growing a bumper crop or in the shop fabricating one of his many inventions. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humour and for being a practical joker. After his retirement from PCS, Eric had a hard time sitting still, he was always on the go, from planning his crop to helping out the neighbours and of course planning vacations with his soul mate. Hawaii was a favourite place to visit on a yearly basis, to break up the winter. In the summer, Eric and Lois would take the boat and camper and head to the lake to spend time with friends and family and to enjoy another favourite past time, fishing. Eric joined the Model Engineering Group and spent countless hours designing and building miniature engines. He was most proud of a replica of a Neapolitan canon that he built. He also volunteered with many local groups such as the Wilson Museum and South Allan Water Board. Eric was predeceased by his parents Jack and Helen Wiens. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lois; his son Mark (Darlene), grandsons Ethan and Nate, and his daughter Erin. He took great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Dorothy, mother-in-law Katherine, sister-in-law Julie (Ron) and brother-in-law Art (Ella) as-well-as many nieces, nephews and many good friends that he felt were family. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, Dr. Iqbal and all who were involved with Eric's battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (440 - 2nd Ave North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2C3). A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Nutana Park Mennonite Church (1701 Ruth St East).
