Ernest was born in Jasmin, SK, on March 18, 1943, the youngest of three children. Growing up on the family farm, he went to teachers college and began his teaching career in Simpson, where he met and married Joyce. Ernest spent his 30-year career in Simpson, spending 5 years as principal of the school.
He enjoyed camping, gardening, helping his brother on the family farm when he could, and spending time with his family. Other passions included films, sports, books, and music, even collecting guitars in later years. After retiring from teaching, you could find Ernest substitute teaching in the area, or behind a video camera recording weddings, graduations and family events. Many people in surrounding communities have video tapes and DVD recordings of their special events that Ernest recorded, edited and produced on the PC that he taught himself to use.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Simpson Cemetery Fund.
A memorial service will be held for Ernest on April 26, 2025 at 11:00a.m. at Mourning Glory Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre 915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available via livestream at the following link:
