Early morning Saturday May 28, after ninety-one and a half years, God called home our dad, grandfather, uncle and friend to extend the honour and privilege to play in the Big Sky Golf Invitational. As it was announced "And now on the tee, golfing out of the Kenogamisis Golf Club in Geraldton, ON, and the Silverwood Golf Club in Saskatoon, SK, Frederick John Kelly." Born and raised in Cobalt ON on Sept. 7, 1924, Fred was the last surviving member and one of nine siblings. Fred moved to Nipigon ON and later to Geraldton ON where he enlisted and served his country in World War II as Leading Aircraftsman of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon his return, with his wife Helene, they raised two children Catherine Jane and Robert Frederick Alexander. Fred worked several jobs most notably as a butcher in his family's grocery store (Northern Fruitery) and as a salesman and later co-owner, with his wife, in the family menswear business (Kelly's Menswear). Fred was active in life, church and community. He loved to golf, play pool, snooker and cards, fish and socialize with family and friends. Fred was a member of St. James Anglican Church, and several clubs and associations including the Royal Canadian Legion, Geraldton Chamber of Commerce, Kenogamisis Golf Club and the Masonic Lodge. After retirement, Fred and his wife made the move from life in small town Northern Ontario to city life in Saskatoon, SK. Here they joined seniors clubs and were members of St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Fred enjoyed being a member of seniors fitness programs and the gym at the University of Saskatchewan Field House and continued as a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church. Fred was predeceased by his parents Kahlil and Frieda, his loving wife Helene, brothers Bill, Joseph, Ken, and Allan and sisters Sophie, Mary, Alice and Dorothy. Fred leaves behind his two children, daughter Catherine (Timothy) Wegren, son Robert Kelly, two grandsons Matthew and Mark Wegren, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Paul's Hospital for the care and compassion provided during Fred's final stay. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday June 2, 2016, 1 PM at Emmanuel Anglican Church, 609 Dufferin Ave, Saskatoon, SK. Lunch and refreshments will follow. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 8th St. East, Saskatoon, SK.
