With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Gail Fay Shirley, lovingly known to many as Grandma. Gail passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on Friday, December 26, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Gail built her life and raised her family in Saskatoon. She took immense pride in being a stay at home mother to her four children, creating a home filled with love, creativity, and warmth. In 2011, she met her soulmate, Douglas Shirley, and the two were joyfully married in September 2014.
Gail’s legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life: • Tabatha Mitchell (Robert) – Sebastion, Nathan, and Xander • Leanne James (Bruce) – Brice, Christopher, and Benjamin • Richard Ham (Jessica) – Rory and Kacie • Clayton Jr. Therrien and family
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gail is predeceased by her parents, Phyllis and Victor, and her sister Brenda.
Gail will forever be remembered for her artistic talent, her imaginative spirit, and her generous heart. A devoted animal lover, she shared her home and affection with her loyal companions, Xena and Teria, who remained faithfully by her side.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — spending time with her grandchildren, camping, fishing, crafting in her beloved craft room, and travelling with Doug. Her creativity, kindness, and gentle presence touched everyone who knew her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff of the 6100 Oncology Ward at RUH. Their compassion, care, and support for Gail and her loved ones will never be forgotten.
Service will be held early summer 2026, family will update once date available.
