Garnet was predeceased by his parents Ancel Hogg in 2005, Marion Hogg (Eady) in 2016 and his brother-in-law Bill McCartney in 2014.
Garnet was born in Almonte, Ontario on March 4, 1950 and grew up on the family farm in the Galbraith community in Lanark Highlands County. After high school he worked on the Foster’s farm and Canada Packers for a little while and then started working in the auto glass industry. In May 1973 he married his loving wife, Helen. They started their life together in Thunder Bay, ON and it was here they welcomed their first daughter Heather. They moved to Winnipeg for a brief time before coming to Saskatoon in 1976. A couple years later, they welcomed their youngest daughter Kimberly making their little family complete. Saskatoon became their permanent home as Garnet opened and operated Classic Auto Glass with his business partner from 1980 to 2019.
In 1982, Garnet renewed his vow to the Lord. This choice brought peace and joy to his life. He remained true to that vow all his days. A little Sunday morning meeting became his privilege to care for in April 1988. This responsibility was one that Garnet loved and appreciated. Garnet and Helen’s home was always open to servants and friends. Garnet loved to have family and people gather around his table to share fellowship together.
Every summer, Garnet liked to take his family camping. He enjoyed the time together around the campfire and hikes through the woods with a little berry picking along the way. In the fall, he was always anxious to head out to the country for a deer hunt with Heather and a couple special friends. Many stories were shared of each successful and unsuccessful hunt. Garnet also held special memories of family times in Jamaica. He loved to visit the folks there with the highlight being Cambria Convention.
Helen, Heather, Kimberly and their extended family would like to say a special Thank You to St. Paul’s 5th Medicine and Palliative Care Units for the care that was given to Garnet during his last days as he fought ALS. A thank you goes out to their “Saskatchewan family” who have stood by in so many countless ways.
