Garret Robert Lavertu passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 1, 2017. He was born in Saskatoon on January 20, 1990. He attended Prince Philip and Aden Bowman schools and achieved his GED in 2011. When he was young, Garret was involved with Navy Cadets, and played baseball and football. He loved all water and snow activities including skiing, snowboarding, fishing, swimming and wakeboarding and cherished time spent at Jackfish (Cochin) and Delaronde lakes. Garret appreciated family gatherings and meals and snacking on Doritos. He was employed in a number of industries over the years including welding, construction and working with heavy equipment. Many colleagues became friends along the way and he had numerous stories about his many “buddies.” Garret was particularly close to his cousins Logan and Joel and his lifelong friend Myles. He was exploring his path in life when health issues arose and he was facing those like a champ. Garret was a kind and gentle soul who wore his heart on his sleeve and he loved being around children. His proudest moment was when his son Isaiah was born in 2012 and he was a wonderful and devoted father. Garret is lovingly remembered by his son Isaiah, mother Charlene Hegel (Rob Hoesgen), father Gil Lavertu (Melana Soroka), sister Ashley Lavertu, stepsister Alanna, stepbrother Ty, nephew Sawyer and nieces Daphne, Leila and Tillie and the mother of his son, Rebecca Ward. Garret is survived by grandparents Richard and Gail Hegel, grandparents Gilbert and Denise Lavertu, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and the Hoesgen and Soroka families. Special thanks to Mental Health and Additions Services for their continued support through the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of a trust fund for Isaiah Lavertu in care of New Community Credit Union 321 20th Street West Saskatoon SK S7M 0X1 Telephone 306-653-1300. A Celebration of Garret’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 commencing at 2:00 p.m. at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive Saskatoon SK)
