
Gordon John Merritt, 65, of Saskatoon died suddenly on April 23, 2014. Gord was born on March 3,1949 in Leroy, SK to Elsie and Jack Merritt. He was raised in Saskatoon where he met the love of his life, Brenda Aberdeen. They were married July 22, 1972. They were blessed with two children, Travis and Carla. Gord was a familiar face at the track and in the stock car racing world. He was a mechanic and loved fixing things in the garage. He coached minor hockey and in recent years was actively involved with the Saskatoon Blazers and Quakers. He is survived by his children Travis (Heather) Merritt of Cochrane, AB and his children Meghan and Matthew; Carla (Brian) Deschamps of Saskatoon and their children Decie and Dayton; his sisters Elaine Person and Esther Cox, both of Saskatoon; and best friend, Linda Schmautz and family of Saskatoon. He also survived by numerous sisters & brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his father in 1991, is wife Brenda in 2006 & his mother in 2008. Funeral services will be held at Mayfair United Church (902 33rd St West, Saskatoon) on Tuesday, April 29th at 1:30 p.m., officiating will be Reverend Deb Walker. Donations in Gord's memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. A private family interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
