Ian Mackay was a NICE guy! I am not sure if you could find anyone who would answer otherwise. He was a family man, loved his wife and two children. He loved his pets, from cats to his three Weiner dogs that he doted on, people who knew Ian knew about “cheese day”. He made the auto sales business his career. He celebrated 25 years at Sherwood, despite a few years in a couple of other dealerships. He always called Sherwood his home and was proud to work there and move up. Finally filling the position of Fleet Manager. He knew many many people in the car industry in the city. Not much of a traveler Ian and Ingrid did manage to get in a few special holidays, first to Cuba with their friends the Seidels, then to Mexico for a birthday celebration and the last trip was to the Dominican as part of a group with the Seidels and Rays. He wanted to do more travelling. Ian loved history, he could name all the planes that flew overhead when the airshow was in Saskatoon. On a trip to Ottawa he wore his brother and cousin out with his absorption into all the detail and information at the war museum. He soaked up history and current events. His knowledge was encyclopedic. Ian was very proud of his children. Thomas who has worked for Canada Post for the last six years. Darby attended Library and Information Technology Course for two years and has worked in Elk Point Alberta for three years at Northern Lights library systems as a Cataloguer. It has been a long time since diagnosis in 2008 and the first surgery and radiation treatments. All the way through Ian always maintained his humor. He never felt sorry for himself or a victim of anything. He went to work as soon as he was able, after any of his surgeries or treatments. His last day at Sherwood was very hard on him. He had three surgeries in all with the last one in July of 2017. He knew there was no cure, just buying some time. He was always in good spirits; he passed peacefully away with a loved family friend by his side.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Ian’s memory directly to the Royal University Hospital (Saskatchewan Epilepsy Program).
