Ida was born in Colonsay on November 26, 1936. She was the third child of twenty born to Joseph and Grace Lauscher. She was a very strong, intelligent and independent woman who left home early to start her path on the road to becoming a teacher. She had a 40 year career that only paused a few months each time to give birth first to Lorrie and then Don. She started teaching in Saskatchewan, moved on to Calgary and then finished her career in Nanaimo with a one year stint in Australia.
Her life was dedicated to passing on her wealth of knowledge not only to her school children, but also to her own. She was the greatest Mother who instilled independence, hard work and passion in her children. She was the greatest cheerleader who expressed her pride in whatever they accomplished.
Ida believed in staying connected to her large family. There were many trips to visit Grandpas and Grandmas, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends. Travelling was not an issue with many journeys lasting well into the night to get to family. She also loved travelling the world, sometimes on her own, but most often with her Mom and Dad, siblings and her children.
Ida’s life also revolved around her passions that included sports, music, sewing, art and gardening. She was an athlete as a young woman, a director of musical productions that included up to 150 students, sewing clothes for herself and her family, creating pieces of pottery and paintings and, of course, raising a massive flower and vegetable garden at her home in Colonsay. Whatever she tackled, the outcome was exceptional.
Her life touched so many. She loved and was loved by all. We will miss her but we will also forever have her in our hearts. Rest in Peace Ida.
A Graveside Service for Ida will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday August 31, 2023 at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Colonsay, Saskatchewan.
