With much sadness in our hearts, the family of James Kammerer announce that he lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday February 9, 2023. With family by his side and with him in spirit, he passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beatrice Kammerer, and his infant brother Raymond.
James will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Melvin (Judy), Leonard (Pam), Dennis (Barb), Dale and his sisters Joanne (John) Wilkinson, Janet (Jeff) Holstein and nieces and nephew.
He is part of the history of the Royal University Hospital (RUH) in Saskatoon. James and his sister Janet were the first set of twins ever born at RUH.
James’ life was his family; immediate family and extended family. Whenever possible, James attended any type of family get-together. Usually, he quietly enjoyed all the activities and the excellent food that was available at the get-together. Whenever music and dancing were part of the gathering, he was a constant presence on the dance floor with a sister, or an aunt, or a cousin, or his mom.
James enjoyed all types of country music. When at home, he would listen to his favorite country music station and sing along with the songs he knew, often while playing his favorite games on his iPad. When calling him on his cell phone for a visit, you could always hear the music playing in the background.
After completing high school, James began a 41year working career at a McDonald’s location in Saskatoon. During his working career, he received many employee service recognitions and the franchise owner acknowledged his loyalty with several long-term service awards. We estimate that James worked with thousands of young people during those 41 years. Because of James strong work ethic, dependability and how he treated his fellow employees and all customers with respect, we are certain that his example had a positive impact on many of those young people.
The family is grateful to the wonderful staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, Greenfield Personal Care Home, the Oncology Unit at RUH and the incredible staff on the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital.
As requested by James, a funeral service will not be held following his passing. Interment of his ashes will take place at a later date.
If anyone so wishes, donations in James memory may be made to Hospice Without Walls, C/O Prairie Hospice Society (302 – 506 25th St. East, Saskatoon, SK. S7K 4A7).
Arrangements entrusted to Travis Minor.
