July 27, 1925 – Dec. 24, 2010
After a full day enjoying family, friends and seasonal activities, mom peacefully passed away at age 85 at home on Christmas Eve.
Those who will sorely miss her include daughter Tanis Taylor (Al); son Trevor Youngstrom (Elaine) of Elrose and children Dylan, Rory and Kalli; daughter Norma Morson (Keith) and children Jana Salt (Joel) and Michael Morson (Chelsea). Sharing our loss are siblings and families of brother Lyle Amy (Emmy), sister-in-law Rita Amy – all of Outlook, sister-in-law Peggy Amy, special brother-in-law Ken Stephenson – both of Saskatoon, and defacto eldest child – nephew John Billett.
One of Elgin & Eileen Amy’s four children, mom was raised on the family farm near Conquest, SK. – She fondly recalled her youth, reminiscing about dances at Denny’s barn, playing softball at sports days and riding to school in a horse-drawn sleigh. After graduating from “Normal” in Saskatoon, she taught at several schools throughout Saskatchewan, concluding her career in Forgan where she met and married a dashing local farmer – Norris Youngstrom.
During the next years mom was ceaselessly busy with child-rearing, church, choir, curling and community, tending a garden that seemed to stretch for miles and working alongside dad (all 5 feet of her). There was always time however for planned and impromptu gatherings of family and friends that were rich with music, card games, competing conversations and laughter. With reduced demands of an empty nest, mom and dad enjoyed Saskatchewan fishing trips and lengthier vacations with dad’s sister Elsie catalyzing the laughter, and her husband – Ken Stephenson – handling logistics (and introductions to every single person they met throughout their travels).
After dad’s passing in 1986, mom moved to Saskatoon, enthusiastically taking on new activities including golf, bridge, dance classes, volunteering at the City Hospital gift shop (from which she retired at age 80) and whole-hearted involvement in the Meewasin Valley United Church. Mom thoroughly enjoyed her Cree Place pals and frequest visits with family and friends of the Elrose and Conquest/Outlook communities. International travels with childhood friend Doris (Head) Gardner were special adventures, and she so appreciated raucous good times with “the Amy clan”.
