February 14, 1929 – September 11, 2016
With heavy hearts we announce the gates of heaven have opened to welcome Johnny Panko. Johnny was greeted at heaven’s door by his daughter Karen, son-in-law Richard, as well as his mother and father Nicholas and Martha, and his brothers and sisters that have gone before him. Left to hold and share his memories are his wife of 67 years, Molly; son Tony (Jo-Anne) and their children Devlin (Heather), Kendra (Chris), great grandson Trysten; daughter Shelly and her children Mackenzie and Paige. He is also survived by two brothers Nick (Mardel), Bill; sister Theresa; and sister-in-law Rose Dailwal; and many nieces and nephews. Johnny was a very successful man beginning his career logging in the bush camps, moving to road construction, then steel manufacturing in Hamilton, ON. He then opened successful retail grocery stores in Portage and Gladstone, Manitoba. This was followed by a move to Saskatoon where he managed the Wakaw-On-Inn at the Wakaw Regional Park. John always felt that his proudest and biggest success was his family. Thanks for one hell of a ride. We love and will miss you. The Vigil for John will at held at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Father Gerard Cooper at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 15 with both services at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 3339 Centennial Drive. John was a passionate outdoor sportsman, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s name to Ducks Unlimited.
