My Mother Lorraine and I (Kelsey/Kelly) are saddened to announce the passing of my father Kenneth Qualman at the age of 85 in Saskatoon. Kenneth (Ken) was born April 21, 1939, to Christine and Roland Qualman of Dundurn. Ken was predeceased by his older brother Lawrence and is survived by his sisters Gerry, Viola and Verlie.
Dad was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (Agriculture). Ken and Lorraine (Wood) were married on June 21, 1969, at the Pleasant Point Mennonite Church. Together, they continued farming the Qualman family lands in the RM of Blucher where they raised one daughter (me) and organic, purebred Charolais cattle along with grain, alfalfa hay, and hemp. In 2017 they received the prestigious 100 Year Century Farm Award which recognizes 100 years or more of continuous farming operations in Saskatchewan. Dad was an active member of the Dundurn 4-H Beef Club and served for 10 years as Barn Boss for the Canadian Western Agribition held annually in Regina. Dad also held his pilot license. While I never had the honour of flying with him, my mother did. She tells me it was one of the most terrifying moments of her life.
Dad was a loyal NHL Detroit Red Wings hockey fan, a trusted friend and generous neighbour. He is remembered fondly and will be sorely missed.
