Laurent Joseph Jules Loiselle

He was the eldest child of a family of 7, born in Vonda, Saskatchewan. He married Bernadette Grimard of Prud’homme on August 6, 1958 and they were wed for 61 years.

Laurent was preceded in death by his wife Bernadette, father Félix, mother Germaine, sister Délia, brothers Paul and Lionel, infant brother Paul and his grandson Trevor. He is survived by his four children Marc (Anita), Céleste (Jim), Damien, Lynne (Chad), 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Laurent was a loyal man who always put his family first. He and his wife made their home in several places, including Île-à-la-Crosse, Meadow Lake, Saskatoon, Spiritwood and eventually settled in Vonda where Laurent took over the family farm. He enjoyed several careers outside of farming including barbering, and made his community better by serving as mayor of Vonda for several years. One of his greatest joys was working with the English and French scouts for over 40 years, earning him the Cross of Jerusalem award from the Governor General of Canada.

He was an avid photographer, wine maker, coin collector and blood donor. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and loved good food.

Laurent was a man of great faith who was very devoted to his parish. He was a pillar in the community and his presence will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers the family would be grateful for donations made to Central Haven Special Care Home in Saskatoon. This is where Laurent spent the last year and a half of his life and received the most exceptional care. We are forever in debt to the wonderful nurses and staff who made Laurent’s final days peaceful and filled with love.

Vigil of Prayer will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday December 14, 2023. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday December 15, 2023. Both services will be held at St. Phillipe-de-Néri Roman Catholic Church, Vonda, Saskatchewan.
