It is with profound sadness that the family of Margot Kopas (nee Jones) announces her sudden passing on February 2, 2026. She will be forever remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her kind devotion to her dear friends and her inspiring ability to uplift everyone she encountered.
Margot was born in 1943 to Mary and Lloyd Jones. She was an adorable little girl with beautiful red hair and freckles who loved going to watch ball games with her dad at Cairns Field. She was the oldest daughter and from a young age she was delighted to help look after her brother Don and then her baby sister Arlie. From high school, she went to Teachers College in Saskatoon and then began teaching in Wilkie Sk. She was just 19 and very homesick and persuaded her parents to visit her every weekend, and they did! The majority of her 33-year teaching career was centered in various elementary schools in Saskatoon.
She loved teaching and valued every student for the good she strived to see in all of them. Growing up, her nieces and nephews remember playing “school” at her house because she had collected a large assortment of fun resources and school supplies. She was an amazing aunt and great aunt, always encouraging and instilling a love for learning. After her time in the classroom had ended, she went on to continue her career in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan. She worked another ten years as Assistant to the Intern Coordinator, helping to place young teachers in internships and to mentor them to become inspired young teachers for future generations.
She was an advocate for those who suffered from mental illness and founded the support group FROMI (Friends and Relatives of the Mentally Ill). She had a vast array of friends and colleagues who she enjoyed spending time with and playing many hands of bridge with. She had a love for the Arts, being a loyal patron of Persephone Theatre, attending the Fringe and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan every year.
She was an enthusiastic fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and especially Ronny Lancaster after which she named her first cat. She loved travelling and exploring many parts of the world, always bringing back interesting stories and souvenirs. As the firstborn, Margot naturally stepped into a leadership role within the family, caring fiercely for those around her and always putting family first.
Margot was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Lloyd Jones.
She is survived by her brother Don Jones (Jan), her sister Arlie Putnam (Bob), her nieces and nephews Trevor Jones (Connie), Greg Jones (Dee), Tasha Bedry (Cam), Tara Baldwin (Doug) and Kris Jones (Jen). As well as her great nieces and nephews Carson and Ryan Jones, Adam (Morgan) and Erin Bedry, Steven and Amanda Baldwin and Kayla, MacKenzie and Jackson Jones. Also, her first great, great nephew Spencer Bedry.
Finally, her cat Bailey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the S.P.C.A.
