Marie was born in Grayson, SK in 1940. She attended school in Regina and later moved to Ontario, before coming back to the prairies, and settling in Saskatoon. As a teenager, she dreamed of being a nurse, but a serious lung operation made her take a different path. Her interest in health care remained as she worked as a medical administrative assistant in hospitals in Toronto and Saskatoon, and at Veterinary Medicine at the U of S. Marie was also co-owner of Blondies Catering. She made delicious meals, and baked goods, with pies being her specialty. Marie was a faith-filled woman who prayed for others daily, and she had a deep devotion to Mary. She loved visiting with friends and family and deeply loved those who were close to her. Marie was an avid sports fan who cheered for all Canadian teams, with the Roughriders and Maple Leafs being her favourites. Despite battling many health challenges, she would not want her illnesses to define her life. Instead, we remember her great sense of humour, enthusiastic spirit, and immense strength.
She was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Maurice Casavant; parents Frank and Eva Huber; siblings: Rose, Freda, Don, and John; and nephew Dennis.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Maurice (Kane, Koby, and Reegan Casavant), Anne-Marie (Bob) (Michael and Noah Turner); and sister-in-law Marlene Casavant.
The family would like to thank Dr. Danilikewich, Dr. Lees, and Dr. Tam for improving Marie’s quality of life. Donations in Marie’s honour can be made to the Alzheimer's or Lung Associations of Saskatchewan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church (114 Kingsmere Pl., Saskatoon). Rite of Committal will follow at The Columbarium at St. John’s.
