We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Mom left us peacefully on Sunday, December 24, 2023, while in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital. Left to mourn are daughter Cheryl (Tim), Thomas (Kercy) and Bryden (Volonté), son Curtis (Juli), Davis (Jenna), Mathias, Nicklas, and Annika, sisters Betty Anne (Peter), Margaret, Helen (Bob), Claudette (Ray), and brother Duane (Connie). Marie is predeceased by her best friend and loving husband Wally who passed away on December 24, 2015, father Walter Banadyga, mother Hetty, and brother Tommy. She was born in Wadena, SK. Her family farmed in Lintlaw, SK where she went to school and then graduated from high school in Sturgis, SK. Marie began her career as a bank teller with CIBC and through her dedication and hard work retired as a bank manager. After her retirement, and together with Dad, they spent many wonderful years during the winter “down south” playing golf together, hanging with friends, and hosting family. Mom loved and supported her grandchildren. Whether it was for school, music, or sports, you would always find her at all their events. Baseball took us on many trips across the country and her and Dad followed them along the way. In addition to baseball, there was also gymnastics and track to fill her calendar. She loved to garden, golf with Dad and friends, and host Sunday suppers and other special family occasions. Mom was happiest when doing something for others. She was an honorary life member of the Catholic Women’s League and spent many years volunteering for the church. In Celebration of her Life, a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Both services will be held at St. Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Avenue South, Saskatoon) with Fr. Doug Jeffrey as celebrant. We would like to thank all our family and friends who supported her along this journey. Thank you to all the staff, doctors, and nurses at Royal University Hospital, City Hospital, and St. Paul’s Hospital. Special thanks to everyone who worked in Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital. Your care and compassion during mom’s final days will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Palliative Care through the SPH Foundation or Parkinson’s Canada. Arrangements entrusted to Mandi Wasylkowski.
