She was predeceased by her parents Hulbert and Barbara Woolsey; father and mother-in-law Arthur and Vivian Dow; sister-in-law Faye Roman; brothers Hulbert (Verna), Horace (Edith), Eldon, Leonard (Alice), Boyd (Noreen), Donald, Rowland (Collene), Gerald (Myrtle), Maynard (Marj), and Clair.
Marlene was born on February 20th, 1941, in the family home in Penzance, as did all her 11 siblings. Dixie, as she was also known, was the 11th of 12 Woolsey children. She grew up in Penzance surrounded by her large family which already included several nieces and nephews, as well as Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. She spoke very fondly of her opportunities to travel to Alberta, Ontario or Texas to help care for her nieces and nephews. She nurtured a very special bond with many of them.
Marlene graduated from the Penzance High School in 1959 and went on to complete certification as a Reg Lab Tech in Regina. She worked at the RUH in Saskatoon for 2 years and at the Regina General Hospital. For several years after moving to the farm, she also worked in the lab at the Imperial hospital.
Hazen and Marlene lived in Saskatoon and Craik for a short time following their marriage on August 17th, 1963. In 1965 they moved their young family to the farmhouse Hazen grew up in. They farmed together for the next 45 years until Hazen’s passing in 2009. Marlene continued to live on the farm for another 15 years along with Greg until the fall of 2025 when she moved into Saskatoon to be closer to medical services while she recovered from hip surgery.
Marlene was always active in the community. She enjoyed curling and was a member of the Craik L.O.B.A., Providence Place Caregivers and various community organizations for many years. She loved to sing and joined choirs at church, a senior’s group in Moose Jaw and recently with other residents at Aspen Stonebridge Crossing.
She was an avid fan of curling, baseball (Blue Jays), CFL (RoughRiders) and anything Team Canada. She rarely missed watching or listening to the games on the TV or radio.
Marlene will be dearly missed, but forever fondly remembered by her many family and friends.
