1928-2014
Melvin passed away into eternal life with family members by his side on October 3, 2014 at the age of 85 years. He was born on Dec 26,1928 on a farm near Plunkett, Sask to his parents Lorne and Natalie (Molder). He is survived by his brother Merle and sister-in-law Iris, of Watrous and his sister Lorraine Scott of Saskatoon. Melvin was pre-deceased by his wife Ethel in 2007. He will be sadly missed by his daughters Patricia (Edmund) Hellinger, Carol Phillips, and Melanie (Jeff) Crocker and his grandchildren Karlie (Josh) Thompson, Derek (Shannon) Hellinger, Paul, Joel, and Jasmine Phillips, Olivia and Owen Crocker and great-grandchildren Lydia and Jaxon. Melvin was a quiet man who delighted in the humbler things in life. He had a gentle manner and was a very deep thinker. Melvin had a memory like a steel trap, always remembering the smallest details of any story. Melvin attended the one-room rural Eltham School, Luther College in Regina and Technical Business College in Saskatoon. He worked in lumber sales, home construction, real estate, and most recently he cattle-ranched back in the Plunkett district, actively working well into his 80's. He loved being outdoors on his land. Melvin's favorite pastimes were attending auctions, gardening, and watching Riders football games. Melvin courageously battled his cancer on his own terms. The family is thankful for the gracious and attentive steadfast care of Dr Akhtar and the nurses and staff at Watrous District Hospital. Memorial reception will be at Plunkett Community Hall on Saturday, October 18 at 2pm. Cremation arrangements by Mourning Glory Funeral Services. Private Family internment in the Plunkett Cemetery at a later date.
